above the market A sell order that is higher in price than the market's current price for that security.
accredited investor An individual who, under the SEC's Regulation D, has been proven knowledgeable about investing and who meets certain net worth and income tests. Accreditation is a requirement for certain limited partnership investments.
accumulation Refers to an addition to a trader's original market position; buying over a period of time, to avoid making a single, substantial purchase that might drive up the market price; or more generally, any buying. Opposite of drawdown.
American Stock Exchange (AMEX) The second-largest stock exchange in the United States, after the NYSE. Stocks and bonds traded on the AMEX tend to be those of smaller companies than on the NYSE. Some index options and interest rate options trading also occurs on the AMEX. Also called the Curb.
